Lightning Tournament Report

Mavs had a fantastic weekend, travelling up to the Loughborough Lightning mixed tournament and coming away with a fabulous fourth place. A brilliant result in a competition of eighteen teams!

The morning’s group stage saw powerful performances from the Mavs, right across court. The squad took wins against Henley Hawks, Unknown 7 and UBMS before a draw against Stunts. Despite a tight loss against Kraken, we secured our place in the afternoon’s Cup competition.

As you would expect, the Cup competition was packed with great teams, all with super strong lineups that were full of male players in England programmes and women Prem players. Mavs were in the fight from the word go, starting the afternoon with wins against Knights Netball and Norfolk United 2. We then played a nailbiting match with eventual winners Northants Storm that saw us take a draw. Close losses in great games against Stunts and Norfolk 1 saw us round out the day in fourth overall.

Two Mavs got their debuts at the tournament so congratulations to Tash Englefield and Tara Caulfield. Alana John took a very well deserved Coach’s Player award and she also picked up the most Player of the Match nominations from our opposition throughout the day. Also recognised by the teams we played were Tash, Jacob Kirby and Isaac Englefield. Well done everyone.

Thank you to Loughborough Lightning for a wonderful day - we loved every minute!
